Kendrick Lamar Tops 2019 Grammy Nominees List

The list of 2019's Grammy nominees has been revealed, with Kendrick Lamar taking the lead with 8 nominations.

This year's official list of Grammy nominees dropped on Friday, with Kendrick Lamar topping it for most nominations. In particular, he's up for: album of the year for the Black Panther soundtrack, record of the year, best song written for visual media and song of the year for “All the Stars” with SZA, best rap performance and best rap song for “King’s Dead” with Future, Jay Rock and James Blake and more. Closely behind Kendrick Lamar is Drake with seven nominations, having picked up nominations for best rap performance for “Nice For What,” best rap song and song of the year for “God’s Plan,” album of the year for Scorpion and more.

Just as notable are some of the nods that women have received this year. In fact, each of the big four categories - record of the year, song of the year, album of the year and best new artist - is dominated by women. For example, take the Album of the Year and Best New Artist categories, where love was shown for: Cardi B, Kacey Musgraves, Brandi Carlile, Janelle Monáe, Jorja Smith, H.E.R. and many more.

Curious about who got snubbed (ehem, Taylor Swift and Kanye) and who's nonimations have caught the music industry by surprise? The New York Times put together a nice roundup here.
